Charleston Collegiate School admits students of any race, color, sex, disability, nationality, or ethnic origin to all the rights, privileges, programs, and activities generally accorded or made available to students in the school. It does not discriminate on the basis of race, color, sex, disability, nationality, or ethnic origin in the administration of its educational policies, admission policies, scholarship and loan programs, athletic, and other school-administered programs.
Admission decisions are based on the academic and personal strengths of each candidate. Transcripts and standardized test scores give us an indication of the applicant's academic abilities. Recommendations from teachers tell us more about the kind of person and student the applicant is, about his or her motivation, interests, and abilities to interact with others. The essay is a chance for the applicant to tell the admission committee the things s/he wishes them to know. It will not only give us an indication of writing ability, it will give us a sense of the applicant's interests, goals, and dreams.
Procedure
1. Tour: Open Houses for prospective students are held twice a year; however, prospective families are welcome to schedule a visit at any time.
2. Application: You may download or print the PDF version of the application directly from our website by clicking here. After the printed form has been filled out completely, please return it to the Admission Office with the $75 application fee.
3. Admission Testing: After an application is received, a date for testing will be arranged, at which time we will schedule placement testing and interviews. For grades 5-11, Charleston Collegiate uses the Education Records Bureau CTP IV (Comprehensive Testing Program) ability/achievement test to evaluate applicants based on nationwide standards used by highly selective college preparatory schools. For grades Preschool-4, we use assessments based on Charleston Collegiate's curriculum. For grade 12, we use PSAT, SAT, and ACT scores.
4. Student Visit: Prospective students spend a day at Charleston Collegiate School where they are assigned a "buddy". They participate in the day's activities and typically do the admission testing on this day as well.
5. Transcripts and school records: Parents should complete and sign the school records release form which authorizes their child’s current school to send all necessary records. Upon receipt of the application, transcripts and school records will be requested from the present school.
6. Recommendations: For grades 5-12, current math and English recommendations, as well as an extracurricular or school recommendation, are needed. For grades Preschool-4, a general recommendation is needed. All recommendation forms are available on our website by clicking here. These must be printed out and submitted to the Admission Office by mail.
