The Academic Achievement
Program targets learning and developmental differences in students to enable
them to reach their intellectual potential and enjoy a rewarding educational
experience. Skilled professionals work in close proximity with identified
students in all three divisions to assess varied needs and develop a Student
Support Plan. Faculty members focus on teaching skills that establish a strong
foundation and enable students to succeed academically and become independent
learners.
LOWER SCHOOL
Building a strong educational
foundation is the focus of the Lower
School program. Each student is assessed on his/her ability
to master:
- High frequency
words and phrases
- Phonics
- Syllable
- Prefixes/suffixes/roots
- Spelling rules
- Math
functions/concepts
MIDDLE SCHOOL
Middle School students in the AAP meet during one period of
the day instead of their Spanish, physical education, or arts class as
appropriate. The Middle School program
focuses on enhancing the academic skills that enable students to succeed and
begin to form habits that will allow them to reach their academic potential in
the Upper School. Special attention is paid to
instilling a sense of personal responsibility for academic work
as students master:
- Executive skills
- Study skills
- Note taking
- Fundamental math
skills
- Fundamental
reading and language arts skills
UPPER SCHOOL
By
the time students reach Upper
School, their
individualized learning plans and support encourages them to assume far more
responsibility for their work. After completing the Academic Achievement
Program, students are expected to have developed life-long habits and implement
academic skills that will enable them to be independent learners.
