Academic Research/DISCUS
Quality research starts with quality information and thus, Charleston Collegiate requires all students to use valid, trustworthy web sites when conducting online research. By far the best place to start your research is at DISCUS, South Carolina's Virtual Library. DISCUS — which stands for Digital Information for South Carolina USers — provides free access to an electronic library that's available 24/7. Through an agreement with the South Carolina State Library system, Charleston Collegiate students have access to 37 different databases which represent millions of articles and resources on every possible topic. Both primary and secondary sources are included in DISCUS, as well as current periodicals. DISCUS searches can be customized in a wide variety of ways including by general topic, specific keyword, or grade level. Some of the most useful databases to our students are AccessScience, the Biography Resource Center, Books and Authors, the History Resource Centers, and the SIRS databases. To access DISCUS, click here. The same username and password used at school can be used at home. |
