Student Government

The Middle and Upper School each have student government groups that represent their peers to assist the administration in decision making that affects the student body.

In the Middle School, any student in grades 5-8 may be considered for participation in student government. In order to be eligible, a student must submit an application to the faculty advisor that explains why they would like to be a member of the group as well as what they will contribute to the organization. In addition, each student must get a faculty recommendation to include with their student government application. Once chosen to participate in the student government, the group elects its officers. The Middle School student government meets periodically during lunch time to plan dances and other social activities for the 5th and 6th graders in the Intermediate Level and the 7th and 8th graders in the Middle School who have separate social events. Leaders of the Middle School student government also will meet occasionally with the Upper School student government when issues arise that concern both Middle and Upper School students.

In the Upper School, students in grades 9-12 elect student officers after school begins in August. In order to run for a student body office, students must gain a recommendation from a teacher and must also make a speech to the student body, explaining which area of the school the candidate will focus his or her efforts (volunteerism, academics and curriculum, environment, policy, etc.) Once elected, the student leaders meet with the advisor, Mr. Lenahan, on a monthly basis.
