Winterim

Winterim is a signature CCS experience built into the Middle and Upper School curriculum. It is a week-long program that transforms learning through immersive, real-world opportunities. Students step beyond the classroom to explore, create, and engage.

Through hands-on projects, travel, and experiential learning, students connect classroom concepts to the world around them. As a result, learning becomes deeper and more meaningful.

Unplugged: Creative Writing & Reading Retreat

Upper School students traveled to Brevard, North Carolina for an immersive retreat focused on reading, writing, and reflection in a natural setting. Through analytical reading and the creative writing process, they strengthened their voice while exploring storytelling as a means of self-discovery. Students collaborated closely to build a supportive community of writers and produced original pieces to submit to writing contests.

Cultural Exploration of Ireland

Upper School students traveled to Ireland for an immersive experience exploring both its rich history and vibrant modern culture. Through visits to historic sites, cultural landmarks, and everyday communities, students gained insight into how identity and community are shaped over time. Along the way, they experienced Ireland’s diverse landscapes, from mountains and moors to coastal shores, broadening their perspective beyond the Lowcountry.

Digging into Charleston

Students uncovered the layers of history that built Charleston through an archaeology-themed experience. They explored local sites including the Charleston Museum, Colonial Dorchester, and Drayton Hall, studying artifacts while practicing excavation and mapping techniques. Back on campus, students applied their learning by designing a scavenger hunt and mini-dig for younger students. This hands-on experience connected to Charleston Collegiate’s pillars of Project-Based Learning and Outdoor Education, bringing the past to life through exploration and storytelling.

Above and Beyond: Pushing the Limit

Middle School students embraced a week of adventure designed to challenge them physically, mentally, and socially. They explored some of Charleston’s most exciting outdoor destinations, including James Island County Park, Charleston Zipline Adventures, and Lowcountry waterways through sailing or boating excursions. Throughout the week, students climbed, biked, and navigated new challenges that strengthened teamwork, confidence, and resilience. They also reflected on how stepping outside their comfort zones supports personal growth and deeper connection with their peers.
