A great first tournament deserves a little recognition!

Congratulations to Samuel (Grade 7), who earned the Best First Tournament award at the September 2026 Palmetto Scholastic Chess League tournament in Charleston.

Competing in the Middle School section, Samuel received the award for earning the highest score among students playing in their first tournament. It’s an exciting accomplishment and a fantastic way to kick off his scholastic chess journey!

A Growing Community of Young Chess Players

The Palmetto Scholastic Chess League is a statewide tournament series organized to encourage student participation in chess and support scholastic chess clubs across South Carolina. Students compete throughout the year, with the season culminating in the State Scholastic Chess Championship on March 20, 2027, at the Columbia Metropolitan Convention Center.

We’re proud of Samuel for stepping up to the challenge, representing CCS, and making his tournament debut one to remember. Congratulations, Samuel!
