CCS Student Government Takes the Floor at the South Carolina State House
What happens when students get the chance to step into the shoes of state senators? Our CCS Student Government officers found out firsthand at the SCISA High School Student Government Conference at the South Carolina State House!
Gavin (Grade 12), Layla (Grade 12), Jhazmyne (Grade 12), and Molly (Grade 11) represented CCS during a mock Senate session, where students from across South Carolina developed and presented their own proposed legislation.
Student Ideas, Real-World Discussions
CCS President Gavin and Vice President Layla took the floor to propose a bill that would guarantee admission to a South Carolina public college or university for students who meet a qualifying GPA. Our officers also listened to proposals from other schools and took part in thoughtful discussions about ideas that could make a difference for students across the state.
The conference offered a firsthand look at how ideas move through the legislative process while giving students the chance to practice public speaking, collaboration, and advocacy.

Learning What Leadership Looks Like
In addition to the mock Senate session, students heard a keynote address from USC’s new head baseball coach, who shared insights on the qualities that make strong leaders.
From presenting their own ideas to hearing different perspectives, our Student Government officers demonstrated initiative, confidence, and leadership throughout the day.
A special thank-you to Mrs. Jackson for helping make this opportunity possible, and to SCISA for organizing such a meaningful experience. We’re proud of our Sun Devils for representing CCS!
